Do you have insurance on the vehicle? If so you should let your insurance company try to track down this person. As for finding his correct address – a PI might be your best bet. You will not be able to officially serve him with the small claims lawsuit unless you have his correct mailing address, so you will need to do that. It’s never too late to file a police report, so you should make sure you still file the police report and make sure the witnesses statements are included.

I am sure you can report this guy with the amount of information you have. The question you have to ask yourself is how much damage is on your car, and if there is more damage then the costs of tickets you’ll receive for not having insurance yourself. Additionally, if the accident happened in a parking lot, you may not get anything back. Where I am from, if an accident takes place in a parking lot, no matter whose fault, its 50/50. Driving without insurance may be more of a pain then trying to receive payment from this guy.

Normally I would suggest you call your insurance and they would take care of finding the guy.. but opps… screwed yourself over on that one didnt you? You may even live in a state where you cannot collect money if you dont have insurance ( i personally pray you do… people without insurance shouldnt be on the road… they are such a risk to the rest of us!)

Your only recourse now is having the police find his insurance information (highly doubt it will happen.. they have murders to deal with) or have your private investigator (which is going to cost you a bundle) find his information.. both have very limited means….

If you do infact get his information… call in a claim to his carrier.. they may or may not accept laibility…. if they dont have proof (aka he got his car fixed…) they probably wont.

Now.. please get insurance. Thats so unsafe.. what if a kid ran into the road and you hit him? How horrible would you feel? How would you pay his medical bills? Do you realize how that would affect your life?

Although you did not have insurance, you still deserve to be compensated for damage. The law is not going to reward the other driver by not paying, because you didnt have insurance. Go to your local police station and see what they can do, most police officers detest hit and runners, and will try extra hard to help you. Yes you will be admonished for not having insurance, but you can always show that you’ve lived up to your mistake by getting it now. You might also be able to get his address by doing a reverse phone look up if he gave you his house number: http://www.whitepages.com
